Combating Palmer Amaranth
In the latest USDA Midwest Climate Hub Update the Hub issues a warning about the super weed Palmer Amaranth. Palmer Amaranth is native only to the Southwest and has been observed in Iowa and Minnesota. It is highly competitive and can grow over 3 inches per day. It is able to overrun fields in a matter of years. It is especially threatening to corn, soy and cotton. Iowa NRCS has valuable information about the super weed here. The Midwest Climate Hub encourages extension agents and crop advisers to be on the lookout for this threatening weed.
