As you may be aware, The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) has been working since 2007 to mobilize America’s military veterans into a second career as farmers and food leaders.  The goal is to capitalize on the unique skills and experience of veterans to strengthen the farming and food industry and to replace America’s aging farmers. FVC provides resources, training, and mentorship to veterans transitioning to farming. They also provide annual fellowship grants based on a competitive application process.

The Tennessee Chapter (FVC-TN) became officially organized in May of 2020. FVC TN works with Extension to provide networking and training opportunities to Tennessee farmer veterans. FVC TN is also a partner with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Pick TN Products to support the Homegrown by Hero label.

UT/TSU Extension has been involved since 2015 on the FVC TN ag advisory committee.  Eileen Legault, Joetta White and Troy Dugger represent UT Extension/TN AgrAbility.  Finis Stribling, Jenni Goodrich, and Karla Kean represent TSU Extension/TSU TN New Farmer Academy.  TN AgrAbility works with FVC of TN and veterans with disabilities who want to transition into farming and refer to all USDA/TN resources.
