VIRTUAL DISCUSSION: Land Access In The Southeast TN Region – May 5, 2022

We will be hosting a series of discussions about land access and how it relates to our southeast TN region. The first will be virtual on May 5th at 4:30 central/5:30 eastern.

The average age of a farmer in the U.S. is 57.5 and 98% of U.S. farmland is owned by white landowners. In the coming years, as many as 400 million acres of agricultural land is expected to need a new farmer. As farmland is increasingly being lost to development (2,000 acres per day) and with land prices at an all-time high,  how do we ensure an equitable transition of farmland to the next generation of young and beginning farmers?

Southeast Tennessee Young Farmers is hosting a three-part discussion series to explore this topic. Please join us for Part I of the series, A National Lens, in which Holly Rippon-Butler, Land Campaign Director at the National Young Farmers Coalition, will give us insight into the national context of this issue as well as the steps being taken to devise solutions and take action. The presentation will be about  40 minutes long, with time at the end for questions. A recording will be sent out to all attendees after the event.
